Gagliardi Final Report - Wal Mart Open

Once again Beaver throws me a gut punch that will have lingering effects over the remainder of the season.  AOY chances are severely diminished, and I must quickly pick things up to make sure I qualify for the Cup at Lake Ouachita.  Just as I said before, I don't think I actually learned anything about this lake, even after five days of practice and the tournament.  I did however have chances for a much better finish, but missed key opportunities.  I landed less than half of the keeper bites that I had throughout the tournament, and in a tough event like this, that is begging for disaster.  On the first day, I fished primarily Lucky Craft jerkbaits, getting six bites but only boating two.  Day two I managed three bass, one on a wiggle wart and two on my float and fly.  On this day I lost both of my jerkbait bites and a big fish pulled off of the wiggle wart.  So as I replay the practice and tournament through my head, It's hard to say If I would have done anything drastically different.  I always feel that if I can put myself in position to just get the bites for a successful tournament, then more times than not things will fall in place.  It makes it easier to put an event like this behind me and move forward knowing that my approach and tournament decisions were not the reason for the poor outcome.

On a separate note, let me say I loved my new Z521/ E-tec combo this week.  This is my first Z521 and I couldn't be happier how this boat rode and fished in extremely windy conditions this week.  This boat holds it track and position while fishing even with the 20 to 30 mph gusty, swirling winds that were on the lake the majority of the time.  I'm really looking forward to fishing out of this boat for the rest of the season.
See you on the water!
